Business awards go online

By Deniliquin Pastoral Times

The Deniliquin Business Excellence Awards are going online in 2020.

While the gala awards night planned for June was cancelled due to Coronavirus, the Deniliquin Business Chamber executive did not want to abandon the awards altogether.

There will be a reduced program of awards, and an online awards ceremony in lieu of the annual gala ceremony.

Chamber president said the gala evening is a popular event on the local events calendar, usually attracting 200 people to the Deniliquin RSL to celebrate the achievements and success of businesses.

Mrs Rutter said it was important to still celebrate those successes, despite the difficulties 2020 has brought.

She said the online awards format has been made possible thanks to support from Edward River Council, Deniliquin Pastoral Times, and Edge FM.

‘‘The challenges the business community and their staff have dealt with this year have been truly unprecedented,’’ Mrs Rutter said.

‘‘Yet amongst it all there have been businesses and employees that have continued to shine, and it would have been such a shame for us to miss the opportunity to celebrate that this year.’’

The online awards ceremony will be streamed live on Friday, October 16.

There are six awards categories, including the coveted Business of the Year.

Others include Employee of the Year, Excellence in Customer Service (one for businesses and one for individuals) and Outstanding Young Employee, Apprentice or Trainee, as well as the new

Inspiring Pivot Award.

‘‘In this category chamber is looking for a business that has pivoted their business model to achieve short term survival and long-term resilience,’’ Mrs Rutter said.

‘‘The inclusion of this award provides us with an opportunity to really celebrate and acknowledge some of the many innovations we have seen from businesses who have successfully adapted to the changing conditions this year.

‘‘Whether it was embracing technology in a creative way, redefining their product offering, or even using the downtime to make changes to their business, we want to acknowledge the enormous effort made by these businesses to keep the wheels turning for their business.’’

Winners of the individual staff awards will receive a $200 Deniliquin Gift Card.

Members of the public are encouraged to get involved by nominating a business or individual. Nominators go in to the draw to win a $100 Deniliquin Gift Card.

Nominate online at www.deniliquinchamber.com.au/awards by October 2. Nomination can also be sent to chamber at PO Box 513, Deniliquin.
